Ways to Protect Our Kids from Coronaphobia

While the coronavirus influenced the many different aspects of people’s lives, one of the most affected groups are children. While our children solely need for love and trust from primary caregivers, the pandemic has led them to feel great worry regarding their present moment and future.

Last year the World Health Organization’s declaration for pandemic due to coronavirus has changed our daily routines drastically. Among those changes, our social relationships and professional lives have been affected negatively.

While the coronavirus influenced the many different aspects of people’s lives, one of the most affected groups are children. While our children solely need for love and trust from primary caregivers, the pandemic has led them to feel great worry regarding their present moment and future. Children give meaning to live from the perspective of their parents or primary caregivers. The most important step to protect them from the chaotic era is to manage our own emotions correctly.

Here are a few methods we can apply to minimize the negative effects of coronavirus:

  • Adults must manage their emotions in a proper way,

  • Informing the children according to their age-development stage and keeping those information clear and short,

  • Responding to children’s questions without postponing, and in a consistent manner with solid answers,

  • Providing an environment that doesn’t feed the worry but instead promoting hope and trust,

  • Being a role model by applying the precautions,

  • Preventing children from exposing themselves to negative information, content and news.
